Headaches, Shivers, Runny Nose, Fever, Stiff Neck, Chest Pain, Dizziness, Dry Cough, Sensitive Skin. What Is Going On?

on Monday night I got the shivers, runny nose and fever and thought it was a hayfever attack, took Clerentine and nose spray and nothing helped, next morning could not get out of bed, all bones hurt, extremely senstive skin (especially back), stiff neck, headache, fever, exhausted..went to the doctor who has given me Kalixocin telling me that it is worse than a flue..I have a very dry cough that hurts in my chest, dizzyness and almost collapsed trying to walk 300 meter. I am short of breath and my nose is blocked...what is wrong? Is this possibly pneunomia and if it is a viral one should I be taking this anti-biotics or should I report the severity of how I feel to the doctor? I just want to get better soon. Thanks!

Hi and thanks fr the query,

At times even viral infections could produce very dramatic clinical signs and symptoms as such. But when symptoms become persistent, a keen and careful reevaluation is needed.

is an absolute necessity in this case to carryout a chest X ray. It is very possible that this should be a bacterial pneumonia, necessitating an invasive treatment with antibiotics. Difficulties in breathing deserve to be investigate for complications such as pleural effusion (fluid in lungs). Other causes of respiratory distress mus also be borne in mind like asthma and heart disease. A clinical reevaluation, a complete blood count for white blood cell levels are a chest x ray are sufficient initial evaluation parameters that shall ascertain the diagnosis and severity of the condition, determining future management and follow up. I suggest you get another consultation.

Kind regards,

Bain LE, MD.
