Headache, Sore Throat, Low Grade Fever, Heavy Congestion In Chest, Coughing Phlegm. Had Antibiotics, Sinus Surgeries, Still No Help. Reasons ?

I have been sick for 6 weeks (or more!) It started with headache , sore throat , low grade fever, heavy congestion in chest/throat. I would cough but it was not moving. I went to my dr and he gave me an antibiotic and a steriod pack. He said it was allergies (I am allergic to everything out doors, spring and fall kill me every year. I have had 2 sinus surgeries . I had No change after the 10 days of anitbiotics. After another week went by I went to the Care Now clinic. My symptoms changed slightly. I was now coughing up green phlem and lots of it. He gave me another anitbiotic. I did not get better. Now I am heavily congested in the nose, STILL coughing up green gunk and still running a low grade fever off and on. I just feel BAD. Both Drs listened to my chest and said it sounded clear. I have never been sick this long! Oh, I have been doing a saline solution wash through my nose most days. It helps when I do it but I get all stopped back up after a couple of hours. HELP!

Hi,

I read your medical history and understand your worries. The most important thing is to keep in touch with your pneumologist for further evaluation.

Antibiotics will help you ease your symptoms. If I was your caring doctor would ask to do culture (for bacteria and fungus) of the sinus discharge and sensitivity to find out the most appropriate drug for you (whether antibiotic or antimycotic).

I also suggest:
- keep room well humidified, not too cold nor too hot
- keep good hygiene of nose and throat (as you are doing with washing)
- can do inhalation therapy using saline
- get 2 pillows when you sleep.

All the best!
