Headache, Pain In Muscles, Ears And Sore Throat With Sharp Radiating Pain In Throat. No Help From Antibiotics. Advice

I started out having a headache, muscle aches, ear ache and a sore throat three weeks ago today. I have been on two rounds on antibiotic and i still have a headache, muscle aches and a sore throat. My throat has hurt only in one spot the entire time and started out being sore to the touch. Now i sometimes get sharp radiating pain in just that one spot where my throat still hurts.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

I have understood your problem regarding throat pain and I can assume that in all probability you have a case of acute pharyngitis along with tonsillitis and reflux. If only one spot is tender then it may have got into the stage of abscess or pus formation which may need to be let out so that you get a good relief.

Since your antibiotics are not working you need to immediately take a throat swab and send it for analysis. Furthermore you may need to take pain killer injection and antibiotic injection so that you can get better pain relief and symptom control. Empirically if you have not yet tried amoxycillin-clavulanate 625 mg combination for five days along with tablet pantoprazole twice for two weeks, you may do so. Your doctor will know about these.

Take plenty of warm fluids and do not take anything spicy and oily.
Do salt water gargle and keep your tongue clean

Hope you get well soon

Regards

Dr Sriram Nathan
