Having Tonsillectomy Due To Halitosis. Has Thyroid Condition And Takes Medicine. Concern About Surgery Complication?

My 34 yr old daughter insists upon having a tonsillectomy due to halitosis. She has a Thyroid condition and takes a replacement thyroid medication. She is petite but healthy and I am worried about possible post surgery complications, like bleeding and infection. I can't convince her not to have this elective procedure, but she needs to know the risks involved.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Your concern is understandable but if her thyroid levels are maintained within normal range then her risk of complications related to that condition would be reduced.

Tonsillectomy is associated with possible complications but it is a common procedure and her doctor would be able to advise her regarding any risks involved. Before any surgical procedure , the surgical team is required to discuss all potential complications with the patient for informed consent to be obtained .

This means she would be provided with all the information she needs to make an informed decision.

I hope this helps
