Having Flank Pain, What Will My CT Scan Show?

I have flank pain for 3rd time in past 4 months. Went to see doctor who said I had microscopic red and white blood in my urine sample. Last time also microscopic blood in urine but didn't grow anything!. Doctor has booked me for CT scan to identify causes. I have experienced feverishness today. I have not had usual burning sensations of urinary tract infections but I have had increased urgency to pass more than usual urine. I am concerned what CT scan will show. Can you advise?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

A CT scan for flank pain is usually indicated to rule out stones in the kidneys or ureters. There can also be mild infection that is causing your pain. I would suggest you to get ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis before going in for CT scan. Also keeping in mind your urgency to pass urine, a pre void and post void urine volume estimation might help.
