Have Warm Sensation In Upper Right Chest. Stopped Breast Feeding. Normal?

My baby is now 13 months. I stopped breastfeeding completely about 2 weeks ago. About a month ago , maybe more, I started feeling a warm sensation in my upper right chest that would last several seconds. No discomfort. Is this a common occurrence as one's milk supply dwindles and then disappears? Or should I see a Dr. about this?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Many mothers experience a few side effects after stopping breast feeding, and these are considered to be normal, and usually subside within a few days/weeks.

The side effect you are experiencing is most probably due to the fullness of the breast due to milk accumulation. This results in breast engorgement and thus the warm sensation, due to the enlargement of the breast.

This is commonly dealt with by expressing some milk out of your breasts, which will reduce the size and make you feel more comfortable. Avoid using a breast pump for this, as this might result in more production of milk. I am sure you are fine, and do not need to visit a doctor unless you experience any other symptoms. Although, for your satisfaction, you could visit your doctor for a physical examination, this is always safer.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
