Welcome to HCM.
You have been treated correctly by Cefixime
. This is a third generation cephalosporin
which is commonly used nowadays. Chloramphenicol was the drug of choice a decade back. The bacteria causing typhoid
nowadays are not easily killed by chloramphenicol, meaning they have developed resistance to the drug hence stronger antibiotics are preferred. I hope I have cleared your doubts regarding this. Please complete the full course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor. I suggest fluid diet and rest till you recover completely.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
