Have Swollen And Red Foot. What Could It Be?

For the last few weeks I ve been having a pain in my foot in the arch area, it was moving up my foot and the top of my foot was red and warm to touch. I changed shoes and most of it has gotten better but all around the veins in my arch looks swollen and it s red and painful. The area feels very hard. The PA at my Dr s office told me it was probably tendinitis but it didn t feel hard at that time. It s really bothering me tonight, its so swollen and red. What could it be?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

It could be some form of inflammatory reaction of the soft tissues in the foot.
Using an appropriate antibiotic along with antiinflammatory medication for few days may help in resolving the issue.

An xray may be needed to know the involvement of underlying bones by an inflammatory or infective focus.

* Do ice packing over the inflammed area
* Use elastic compression bandage to reduce the swellng
* Keep your foot end in elevation
* Give rest to the foot

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
