Have Sliding Hernia, Acid Reflux, Constipation And Boating But Not Coeliac. Taking Dulcolax Is Helpful?

I have suffered with constipation and bloating for many years I have numerous tests at the hospital which have found nothing. I am not coeliac I have a sliding hernia and occasionally suffer from acid reflux.a high fiber diet or laxatives with fibre make me alot worse.I have been told that i have very poor transit through the bowel- if i dont take laxatives i just dont open my bowels- i have left it as long as possible( up to 2 weeks) before i can take it no more -i have to take dulcolax but i have been told i shouldnt be taking it on a long term basis. I have been given bulking agents which bloat me and give me excesive pain, lactulose didnt work and now laxido which bloats me and causes extreme wind that makes daily life challenging. Im desperate to find something to help.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

I assume that colonoscopy has been done as well. If not, you should start with it.
If all tests were negative, your diagnosis is IBS. It may be caused by chronic bacterial infection which should be checked with stool culture test. You should also try Rifaximine treatment. This is the very special antibiotic for chronic bacterial infection. Probiotic should be added.

Next thing witch should be checked is thyroid (hypothyroidism can cause chronic constipation as well).

Please also discuss with your doctor Mebeverine treatment.
Physical activity like swimming or jogging greatly stimulate bowels to work. Even gentle massage can help.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
