I am a 37 yr old caucasian female. I'm in great shape, eat very healthy and exercise almost every day. I've been having chronic right flank pain and have had 6 major attacks since January while sleeping. During these attacks the pain is excruciating and when it's happening, I can't move or breathe very deep. They last from an hour to 4 hours. I went to the hospital after my first attack and they couldn't find anything wrong besides some fluid in my abdomen which they think was a result of an ovarian cyst bursting. Which, after seeing my gynecologist, had nothing to do with the pain I've been experiencing, and not even in the same area. He suggested I see a gastroenterologist. After multiple tests on my liver, gallbladder, colon, and intestines they couldn't find anything wrong. They did an ultrasound of my kidney at that time as well and didn't see any stones. Still experiencing the pain and wanting answers, I went to see my PCP and he ordered an IVP of my right kidney Wednesday. Well I got a call this morning from my dr and it turns out they found small stones in my veins, subtle abnormality, loss of function in the upper right section, and fullness in the right collecting system. He said the damage could be from passing a large stone but ive had no evidence of stones (no blood or stones in my urine). He's scheduled me with a urologist Tuesday, but until then, can you tell me what this could mean and what could happen because of it? How serious is this? Surgery?
