Have pain below rib cage and middle of stomach. Blood pressure is normal. Advice?

I m 55 and not over weight. Was in pretty good shape from skating full out daily Oct thru January. For last 3 days, I have experienced something new to me. It s a very dull pain just below my rib cage in the middle of my stomach . It s a bit like heartburn but at time shoots down to lower intestines and Tums, that usually work quickly, don t do much for it. At doctors routinely a week ago listened to heart, sounded good. Blood pressure up to 143/93 when usually perfect 120/80 but he did not seem overly concerned. I ve checked blood pressure at drug store daily since and around 135/100 each time. Have been taking 500 mg of aspirin daily since saw doctor.

Hi thanks for your question.
Pain below rib cage in the middle of abdomen radiating down is usually due to APD that is acid peptic disease.Aspirin could be reason for you APD.Other causes include cigrette smoking, alcohol, and spicy food.Your blood pressure of 143/93 is in the hypertensive range, even blood pressure of 135/100 is also in hypertensive range and needs attension.Try for life style modification like daily excercise, cut in oils, fats and salt.Avoiding alcohol, cigrette and spicy food ( if you are using these). This will help in controlling your blood pressue as well as APD.If life style modification doesn't help in controlling you blood pressure, you need medication for control of blood pressure. For control of APD take, antacid 3 to 4 times daily. You can also take proton pump inhibators like omperazole/pantoprazole.Taking aspirin after meal will also help in controlling APD.With these measure hope you will get ride of your symptoms.Consultation with physician, base line ECG and lipid profile is advisible.
Hope this answers your question.
