Have intestinal cystitis. What is the next treatment procedure?

Hi Dr Grief, I just had a Interstitial cystitis in the Hospital. My Dr said he will explain to me of the next procedures when I come to his office, which will be in two weeks. I am hanging in the air right now, what to do until then? He said something about an ulcer . Will there be an operation or what am I facing? Trudy

Thanks for posting your query.
Interstitial cystitis is a chronic inflammation of the bladder that can cause pelvic and abdominal pain and pressure, frequent urination, urgency, and incontinence. It can be caused by trauma, infection or any autoimmune disease. In this disease your bladder may show patches of ulcers that cause discomfort. It can be treated with drugs, bladder distension or bladder instillation. Sometimes when treatment fails it can be surgically managed by increasing bladder size.
Sometimes bladder may present similarly so it is necessary to rule out cancer by taking biopsy.
Do not worry, your doctor may want to exclude presence of cancer before further management.
Hope it helps.
