Hello and welcome to HCM,
The MRI report of PIVD implies posterior
intervertebral disc prolapse at the level of vertebrae L4, L5 and S1.
A
cartilage is present between two vertebrae.
This cartilage works as shock absorber and protects the
spinal cord from any trauma or injury.
these is prolapse or displacement of this cartilagenous cushion.
The displaced cartilage is compressing the spinal nerves.
Spinal nerves emanate from the spinal cord through foramina in the vertebrae.
Compression of the spinal nerve can produce pain in the area supplied by that nerve.
For replacement of the intervertebral discs complete
bed rest is required.
Bed rest on hard bed is most beneficial.
Complete recovery can take few months and you need to stay under observation of the orthopedician/
neurologist.
Consult your doctor for clinical examination, relevant investigations and thus management.
Thanks and take care
