Dear friend, welcome to HCM! It is really a bolt out of the blue. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder affecting major muscle groups. As age advances, the proximal muscles will get thicker and weaker, causing difficulties in day to day movements. Unfortunately there is no proven cure for it. Treatment is mainly symptomatic and supportive. You will need to see a good neurologist and child therapist to cope up with the problems. Also help from genetic counselor is helpful. Gene and stem cell therapy is being seen as a promise for treatment. You could also join some well organised Duchenne support groups/ blogs convenient to you.
