Have Heart Flutters. ECG Shows A Slight Enlargement Of Both Atria. Problem? Is This Condition Reversible?
Hello. I had some heart flutters and went to the doctor. They did an EKG and said it was normal. Then they called back a few days later saying that they looked at the EKG again and noticed a slight enlargement of both atria. They said it's likely to be caused by high blood pressure which they prescribed me meds for. What does this all mean? They missed it on first glance of the EKG, does that mean it's really slight? Is this condition reversible?

Diagnosis of atrial enlargement by ECG may often be deceptive / One needs an ECHOcardiogram to confirm... It is measurement and so likely to be slight indeed – if significant, pattern recognition alone must have suggested...
The commonest cause of atrial enlargement is ventricular enlargement – from the need to push blood in to the ventricles during the time of relaxation..
Reversal from remodelling often occurs, when the cause is controlled...

A fluttering of heart is not explained as yet, as evident from your description.
Yes high blood pressure can cause enlargement of atria especially left atrium.This means that receiving chambers of your heart (atria) are enlarging. This happens because high blood pressure increases the resting pressure of your pumping chambers (ventricle) which in turn put load on receiving chambers and force them to enlarge. This is reversible to a large extent.
"Slight" is something which is non-scientific and subjective. It is not feasible to make a comment on that.
