Have Headaches, Migraine. Taking Topiramate, Naproxen, Tramadol, Domperidone, Paracetamol. What Else Can Help?

Hi, I am a 31 year old woman living in the uk suffering from horrendous headaches/migraines - pain. I have not been pain free for a whole 24 hours since 8th September. I am seeing my doctor and I am concerned about the new medication regime I have been put on. Also I have still got a dull pain even when I have taken everything. It gets worse when I do anything - like making a cup of tea? The meds are: Topiramate 15mg pm x7 then 15mg am and pm. Naproxen 500mg am and pm. Domperidone 10mg 3 times per day. Maxalt Melt 10mg 1 at the start then 1 2 hours later if required. Tramadol 50mg 1-2 up to 4 times a day as required. Paracetamol 500mg 1-2 every 4 hours as required. I am also using things like tiger balm and soothing balms but nothing is seeming to help. I have little reprieve, it is affecting my home, my job and my life. Is there anything you can suggest.

Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr. Roopa Hiremath's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
I understand your feelings as migraines can be painful. Migraines are due to dilatation of blood vessels causing pulsating headache which is usually triggered by eating chocolates or sweets, getting exposed to harsh sounds and lights, increased stress levels. These headaches are accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Your doctor has prescribed medication for decreasing the dilatation of the vessels which will in turn reduce the pulsating headache, He has also prescribed medications for vomiting. I suggest you take the pain killers with coffee which helps in these kinds of headaches. You also have to avoid the triggers I have mentioned earlier in my answer. Please keep a positive attitude and preferably take rest in a dark quiet room. You could practice some meditation techniques to reduce your stress levels. Thanks.

Hi there, thanks for asking. One reason for intractable headache could be taking too much medications. I suggest that you talk with your doctor to see what could be the reason for the pain. Low oxygen saturation could cause like in sleep problems and depression could also change the threshold for pain. Best wishes.
