Have Had Scarlet Fever And Strep Infection, Now Have Mucus Build Up In Throat. How To Treat This?

Had scarlet fever when I was 7 yrs old, Strep throat when I was 17. Now I seem to have build up of mucus in my throat that causes me to cough only to spit it up, morning and after my evening meal. Leaves me with a soar throat, what can I do to clear this up?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
Scarlet fever or streo throat that happened long ago will not cause any build up of mucus after so much time.
Mucus is normally produced in the respiratory tract.
It acts as a lubricant and it is required for normal functioning of the respiratory system.
Do not try to clear every last bit of mucus forcibly. It will result in sore throat and sometimes bleeding.
Try doing salt water gargling 4 times day to clear your throat.
