Have Frequent Urination. Had Renal Pelvis Thicker On Scanning Before Birth. Any Need To Scan Again?

Hi doctor.
My baby is 10 month old now.she was suffering from loose motion for 4 days, its cured now..and now she s urinating frequently, sometimes every 5 or 10 minutes..
Sometimes while she urinates we feel likes she stops urinating the half way..
At her 4th month on scanning she had her right renal pelvis thicker than the left..but after 1 month checkup it got normal......do we need to scan again,is there qny problem relating that?

this is a case of hydronephrosis.i wanted to know abt the apd of the kidney.if it is less than 10mm and if the latest scan is normal.then no need to worry.if apd is moqge than 10mm ,then further work up is necessary.further work up includes investigations like mcug.

Hello!
Your baby must be having urinary tract infecction. Give her more glasses of water to drink so that infectious agents would wash out. Right renal pelvis was also inflammed due to infection. She is okay now. No need of scans again.
Thank you :)

Pediatrician Dr. Sumeet Arora's  Response
Hi there.

Thank you for choosing HCM for your query.

As you mentioned that your daughter had a stomach bug causing diarrhea which has resolved and now she is having more urination.

It is common for children especially girls to develop a urinary tract infection after diarrhea and your daughter is frequently urinating points to the likelihood of a UTI.
That's why it is important that when you wipe your daughter, it is done from front to back to prevent chances of getting UTI.

Also, sometimes the skin around urethra may get irritated after diarrhea and she may be suffering from a yeast infectioN causing her to have some discomfort and urinate frequently.

I would suggest for her to be seen by her pediatrician for her to be examined so as to rule out a yeast infection and have a urine analysis if necessary.

Regarding the pelvis being thickened if her ultrasound was found to be normal, she does not need another ultrasound unless she had frequent urinary tract infections.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

REGARDS,
Dr. Sumeet.
