Have Fracture, Plate And Screw Broke. Weak Bone Removed. Grafting, Cage Apparatus. What Is The Process Of Bone Healing?
6th surgery after motor bike accident. Intensive surgery on both legs. This week surgery was done on right leg after plate & screw broke. Bone apparently fractured . Weak bone removed. Grafting was to take place and " cage apparatus" with 14 pins installed! Surgeon is on holidays. Can' t get any answers. No grafting done for now. We r told later. Pain is intense. We were told "he would walk out of hospital"? Susceptible to infection, open wounds 2 pin areas have huge gash which may have happened when he was told to weight-bare. What is prognosis of bone healing at this point? Very distressing.
Hi, as you describe it appears that you have osteoporosis, defeciency of vit D, anemia, or diabetis. I advise you to consult another orthopedic surgeon for openion, there appears to be an infection of the bone. You may need to have culture and sensitivity of the discharge from the infection, and treat accordingly , along with the correction of the underlying cause. Then any attempt should be made to correct the deformity. Thank you.
