Hi Ms Thanuja,

Thanks for your query.

From the history of persistent knee pain +swelling 3 weeks after the acute illness, it was indeed chikungunya. Joint pains persist for some time in some patients.

I would therefore suggest that you take anti-inflammatory drugs, such as a combination of ibuprofen + Paracetamol thrice daily along with omeprazole twice daily (immediately after meals); hot compresses of the joint until the pain and swelling subsides.

Mobizox is primarily meant for spasm of the muscles and therefore not indicated for joint problem. Further, Medrol (a steroid) is also not indicated.

However, a bacterial infection of the knee joint should not be forgotten as a strong possibility (since only one joint is involved.)

Hence, it would be advisable to consult an orthopedic surgeon who, after examination, will be able to rule out bacterial infection. If it is indeed, bacterial infection, a course of antibiotics will be urgently required.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” rating to my answer, to encourage all doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Lastly, if you need a detailed and prompt answer for another problem at any time in future, you may post a "Direct Query (Premium)" ADDRESSED PERSONALLY TO ME BY NAME, providing AS MUCH DETAILED INFORMATION about your problem(s) as possible; age/gender; addictions (if any) ; medical history (if any); current medications (if any) and known allergies.

Fond regards and have a nice day
