Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Make sure you have type 2 diabetes when you control your diet so much. You must have at least 1800 to 1900 Kcal diet per day if you are having type 2 diabetes.

If your total calories are not adding to that much then your strictness is of no use, in fact it can be harmful and you will lose good mass of the body- the protein rich muscles and not only fat. This weight loss is not healthy. If you are worried about sugars in case you start eating appropriate amount of calories then your doctor has to advise you medications to further control your sugars.

The syrup Cypon certainly contains sugar but a teaspoon of syrup is hardly anything to increase your blood sugar compared to the increased food intake even by 200 Kcal!

In short you take the syrup and eat well. If there would be any high sugars due to higher calorie intake, your doctor will modify your treatment to control the sugars further.

I hope you got your answer. Let me know if I can assist you further.

All the best.

Regards,
Dr. Madhuri Patil
