Have Diabetes. Have Insulin Reactions. Would Insulin Pump Improve My Living?

I am 43 years of age and been a diabetic since the age of 4. I take five shots a day...morning and evening and then one at each meal. I often have insulin reactions...too much insulin.....I am a male and cannot live alone because of the reactions. Would an insulin pump improve my living? I really need to see a diabetes specialist but do not know where to locate one. I live near Jackson MS. Any ideas. Thank you. Michael1004

Hello,
If you are having repeated episodes of hypoglycemia after using injection insulin then probably the best thing would be to use an insulin pump.
Advantages with using insulin pump are due to better quality of life along with much better control of your sugar levels and obviously the chances of long term complications of uncontrolled diabetes also diminish since there is meticulous control of blood sugar levels round the clock.
However there are disadvantages also like it is very expensive and one has to take lot of precautions with its use.
You can discuss with your doctor regarding the pros and cons of insulin pump.
You can check with your insurance people who can guide you about the availability of a diabetologist in your area.
Thanks
