Hi, Doc,

I am 58yrs old diabetic and have been sufferring with urgent, burning during urination and fatigue for the past few weeks.
Following are revealed in my USG of abdomen and pelvis.

1. Urinary bladder is normal in size, shape and contour diffuse thickening of wall 2-3 cm.

2. Prostate gland is mild increased in size shape and echopattern, no focal lesion seen, capsule is intact.

Can you please let me know what has gone wrong with my health, what might have caused this and necessary treatment for this.

Diabetologist 's  Response
DEAR SIR/MADAM

AS THE USG ABDOMEN AND PELVIS SUGGESTS THE CAUSE MIGHT BE DUE TO MILD PROSTATOMEGALY,. SINCE THERE IS ALSO COMPLAINTS OF BURNING SENSATION DURING URINATION AND FATIGUE FOR PAST FEW WEEKS WE MIGHT SUSPECT OF RENAL CALCULI, I DONT SEE ANY COMMENTS ON KIDNEYS IN USG REPORT. SECONDLY I ADVICE YOU TO DO ONE URINE ROUTINE EXAMINATION. SIMPLE TEST IT MIGHT BE, BUT IT MAY THROW LIGHT ON LOT OF THINGS.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Mayank Bhargava's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, there could be possibility of urinary tract infection.
Do you have feeling of incomplete evacuation of bladder?
Frequent urge for urination along with burning sensation suggest the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ general surgeon and should go for thorough check up.
You should also go for urine routine microscopy along with culture and sensitivity.
Take plenty of water along with urine alkalizer.
Urine infection are also very common in diabetic patients.
Selection of accurate antibiotics depends on culture and sensitivity rest reports.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
