Have Cough With Phlem, Runny Nose, Headache. Taken Cough Syrup, Tablets. What S It And Remedy?

For the past 5 days I've had a really bad cough which has phlem come up. My throat feels swollen when I touch it. I also have developed a runny nose and an unbearable headache which won't go away! I feel like my head is clogged up and I get light headed. I've taken some cough syrup and day nurse tablets... What is wrong with me and how can I get better?

Thanks for writing to H.C.M. for your query.

I have gone through your query regarding bad headache, running nose, sore throat with cough and phlegm. This is for last 5 days. You have taken cough syrup but you have got no relief.

Considering the symptoms it appears as you are suffering from acute upper respiratory tract infection with involvement of sinuses and your pain in ear may be due to eustachian tube obstruction.

You are now advice to take-

(a) Antibiotic- preferably broad spectrum.

(b) Anti inflammatory & analgesic.

(c) Decongestant & mucolytic.

(d) Steam inhalation.

(e) Antacids.
