Have Cough Which Is Continuous. No Medication Till Now. What Should Be Done Now?

My daughter (37 years, married, mother of one) lives next door to me. She has had a terrible barking / hacking cough for many weeks. I can hear her through the party wall. I know it keeps her awake at night. There just does not seem to be any relief for her. She has taken a sputum sample for testing - but no results yet. Have you any suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
As per your query, your daughter is suffering from chronic cough.
It could be cough variant of asthma.
If sputum is coming ,then infection might have super added.
If the sputum is positive for any bacteria, please give her appropriate antibiotic.
I also add an inhaler for complete relief to my patients.
Sometimes,i prescribe high dose of prednisolone and taper the dose in few patients.
Please consult a chest physician and proceed accordingly.
Wish her good health
Regards
