Have Burning Pain In Stomach And Vomiting. Losing Weight. Could It Be Celiac?

Hi I have a burning/tearing pain in my upper stomach every now and again. It can range from mild to very severe when it happens and radiates to my back.I tend to vomit when it comes on me all of a sudden and cannot stop wanting to vomit it lasts about 2-3 hours and nothing helps with the pain. Some have said i may be celiac as it can happen after eating certain foods. I am starting to lose weight as im to afraid to eat.Any idea what it could be?

Hi Stefanie

Thanks for your query.

The pain in upper stomach can be caused by many conditions. The burning or tearing type of pain that radiates to the back can be caused by some conditions like duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, pancreatitis, etc.
To rule out these conditions a physical examination and some investigations need to be done. Investigations can include some blood tests, serology for bacteria named H. Pylori, Ultrasonography of the abdomen, etc. A trial of medicines meant to treat ulcers of stomach can also be taken.
Celiac disease can be ruled out by conducting some blood tests like serology for gluten and gliaden components of diet.

Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
