Have A Bump And Its Slightly Painful. What Are The Findings? Concerned?

i have a bump on the side of my adams apple and its slightly painful (probably due to me fucking with it a bit today) and for the last few days ive had an extremely sore throat but no other symptoms what so ever relating to a flu or cold that i can think of. cancer runs through my immediate family a lot, and the rest.
paranoid and cant sleep, i also have some mental disabilities so have been unable to work for the past 15 months.
still in good shape but my health has fallen a lot since then, i know cant get a definate answer but i want some idea if a lump on or next to adams apple is something else before i jump out a window.
cheers.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I think you are in a confusion state - leading to loss of mental ability, sleep and work capability - which in turn taken you to a distressed state.
understand what is Adams Apple - nothing but a laryngeal Prominence, more prominent in young adolescent male during the voice change. It is nothing but the Larynx with the surrounding Thyroid Cartilage looking like a bump under the skin. If you mean this as a bump (what you are having) forget it, nothing to worry. Cosmetic surgeries are there with greatest risk.
If the bump is not connected with Adams Apple - as you say it is slightly painful with extreme sore throat, the other probability is Lymphadenitis (secondary enlargement of lymph node)
Routine investigations like Total Count (TC), Differential Count (DC), Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), MX test, X-Ray Neck (lateral view), Thyroid Scan - lead to a proper diagnosis.
ENT and General Surgeons opinion is a must.
I wish that it is only normal Adams Apple and nothing else.
Best wishes
