Hello Doctor...I am married about 8 months ago and planning to have a baby. When we checked with doctor, they said, i have PCO (poly cystic ovaries) and they suggested some tablets to get it dissolved and also they said it will be few months (around 4-5 months). Meanwhile, they suggested to have fertyl 50 and hormone injection (HCG) to get pregnancy immediately..Will it give any side effects (now and during next baby)

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Fertyl 50 mg (contains clomiphene citrate), which is the correct medication advised to woman diagnosed to have PCOS/PCOD and are trying to conceive. This initiates the growth of the ovarian follicle and thus initiates ovulation. The use of clomiphene helps in increasing the chances of fertility and usually produces 2-3 eggs, instead of just one, which is produced in a woman without PCOS. As there are more eggs being produced, there are more chances of pregnancy and at times even twin pregnancies. It has no side-effects, and will not have any long-term effects or effect future pregnancies. It will also not have any side-effects on your current pregnancy or the baby.

A HCG injection is given to increase your chances of getting pregnant and is very effective. It also does not have any side-effects and will not effect your current pregnancy or have any long-term effects. Your body will start producing its own HCG and soon after your pregnancy status is confirmed, the HCG injections will be weaned off/discontinued.

So do not worry about this, and be stress free. I am sure you will conceive soon. Best of luck. I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
