Have I Permanently Damaged My Voice By Coughing Up The Phlegm?

hi, i'm a singer i think i have got laryngitis symptom started about 5 days ago at first it was just a terrible sore with a terrible cold, snot, my sinus was blacked phlegm, and coughing. MOst of the congetion and phlegm have gone meanwhile my throat is still rather sore. even though i haven't been talking at all, my voice is back somewhat but my upper vocal range for singing has completely disappeard and i'm worried that i somehow damaged it by coughing up all the phlegm. am i ever gonna get my voice back? or is it permanantly damaged?

Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

Looking at your symptoms, you are suffering from Laryngitis. There are high chances of your voice coming back to normal once the inflammation in the larynx resolves.

As you are a singer who needs to use voice more,it would be advisable to consult a speech therapist.He/she will give you training on how to correctly use the voice without straining and in the correct pitch.

At present, you may get relief by taking Analgesic with Anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen,Antacid like Rantac,Antihistaminic like Cetrizine and cough expectorant like Ambroxol.

Also take voice rest for atleast one week.Speak only if it is neccesary in a soft voice after taking deep breath.Don't shout or whisper.Do steam inhalation and warm saline gargles.Avoid cold food and dust.

Hope this answers your question.Take care.
