Have Crohns Disease. Done Colostomy. Had Fistula Removed. Open Abdominal Scar, Draining, No Smell Or Pain. Reason?

Hi. My husband is 53 and has Crohns disease. After 7 resections during his lifetime, he had a permanent colostomy in September 2012. He developed a fistula that was 6 inches long and it was surgically removed in December. In march a small fistula formed at the end point of the first fistula connecting to the side of the stoma, which was removed. He has been healthy since, gained back most of his weight. His stoma is fine, but The abdominal scar from the December surgery has suddenly opened into a small 1/4" round hole, and liquid and pus is draining (not a lot). No pain or redness, no smell, and he says it does not feel like a fistula. We called the surgeon immediately and he said not to worry about it, give it a week to heal. With his history, however, I want him to have a CT scan to see if another fistula has formed. My question is - can a fistulA form from His colon to his abdominal scar without pain?

Hi,
After reading your history it appears that you might have developed secondary infection over the area. I advise you to not pinch or pop the area. You can apply an antibiotic cream such as gentamycin cream. Antibiotic tablets are must such as ciprofloxacin and metronidazole under medical advise. If itching is present then can take benadryl accordingly. You can take pain killer like Ibuprofen or paracetamol or diclofenac according to the pain severity. Consult your operating surgeon to look for the exact situation and treatment of the problem.
