Has Sore Throat, Talking Is Painful. On Fluids. What Is Going On?

I have a 12 year old daughter who has a sore throat with no redness, no fever and no swelling. She claims it hurts to talk. I asked about drainage and she says she has a little. We are giving her ibuprofen and pushing fluids and cough drops when we can get her to use them. Today, is day three of her sore throat. I have kept her home from school today so she can rest, but am wondering it there is anything else we need to do.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Is she having fever?

It seems your child is having an upper respiratory tract infection.

And her throat, tonsils, palate has to be examined physically for signs of infection.

Give soft diet and plenty of oral fluids.

Consult pediatrician for examination and for treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

We should not neglect sore throat.

This is because certain infections of the throat can cause joint problems and rheumatic heart disease.

I suggest you get a throat swab for culture after physical examination by your doctor.

Does she have any fever?

Please reply so that we can help you better.
Take care.

Cardiologist Dr. Anantharamakrishnan's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

She should be seen by a doctor.
Your description suggests it could be allergy or viral
All the same, Streptococcal infection has to be excluded because it can lead to serious short and long term complications - Kidney (Acute Nephritis) / Heart (Rheumatic Heart Disease) / and the progression is silent. Better be safe than sorry...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
