Hair Falling Out In Clumps After Bowel Resection. Will Hair Loss Stop After Body Gets Sufficient Nutrients?

I had bowel resection due to ruptured diverticuli on 5/29/2012, then a small bowel resection a week later after I developed an illeus. I was hospitalized for over 8 weeks and was not put on TPN until 7 weeks after surgery; NS only and NPO for 7 weeks. Now my hair is falling out in clumps. Since I am able to eat now, will my hair loss stop once my body is getting the nutrients it needs?

Hi,

Yes, it probably will grow out again. Just to be safe I suggest you see your doctor be tested for the metabolic disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
