Had Unprotected Sex Before Ovulation, Took Levonelle. Brown Discharge, Bloating, Delayed Periods. What Happened ?
Hello i was two days before ovulation and i had unprotected sex... six hours later i took levonelle and a week after i had a brown discharge but it wasnt my period... i pass my period due date this month and i am feeling very bloated.. can you explain to me what could have happen? i didnt do any pregnancy test so far.. is levonelle not effective if its close to ovulation?
Hi, Levonelle is levonorgestrel, a progestogen and is effective if used within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Since the pill disturbs the normal hormonal milieu of the body, withdrawal bleeding is usually noticed about one week after the intake of the pill. Also, the next normal period usually gets delayed by about 10-14 days. If you do not see your next period even after 10 days after you are due, see a gynecologist for further appraisal of the situation. Absence of ovulation means that you are in the safe period and you do not need a pill then; the pill is effective during ovulation. Hope this helps.
