Had Tick Bites, Rashes, Flu Symptoms, Joint Pain. On Doxo. Tested Positive For Lyme Disease. What Can Be Done?

Hi, I recently tested positive for Lyme disease. I believe the tick bite occurred at the beginning of June 2013 and was followed by rash, flu symptoms, joint pain in elbow, wrist, back and legs. It was not until I was treated for epischleritis with back to back bouts of it that the lyme test was done. I am on the doxo...antibiotic, but I am wondering if I should go see a rheumatologist to make sure I am doing all that can be done. Do you agree?

Hi.
Welcome to HCM.
Lymes disease is a bacterial infection caused by borrelia which is mediated by tick bite. This disease is very difficult to diagnose as the symptoms are non specific like fever, flu like illness, lymph nodes swelling and arthritis. Lab tests also can give false negative results in this disease. You are being treated correctly with correct antibiotics. There is a chance that this disease goes into chronic stage where chronic arthritis can occur. A rheumatologist opinion will definitely be helpful. Thanks.
