Hello and welcome to HCM,

Itching on the shaft of penis can be due to some infection most probably fungal infection.
A past history of sexual contact with a sex worker can be the cause of sexually transmitted disease (STD).
However, barrier contraceptive prevents the transmission of STDs.
Is the itching associated with any discharge or ulceration?
If yes, examination of the discharge is required to look for the infectious agent causing the infection.
If you are concerned about your HIV status, you can get an ELISA test for HIV.
If the test turns out to be reactive, confirmation has to be done by western blot test.
If negative, the ELISA can be repeated after 3 months period.
Itching and/ or ulceration on genitalia along with joint pains can be associated with Bechets or Reiters syndrome.
You need to consult your doctor for clinical examination of the genitalia, relevant investigations, and thus plan management.
HIV infection is associated with high risk sexual behaviour.
Multiple partners is a high risk factor for contracting HIV.
Barrier contraceptives have a protective role from HIV and STDs.

Thanks and take care

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

If you had sex with a condom, there is very little chance of any transmission of HIV infection.
There are some infections which can be transmitted even through skin contact. This happens even if your partner has skin to skin contact like prolonged foreplay of kissing. These infections are herpes, genital warts and syphilis.

You may consult your doctor and get any necessary tests done.

It may also be that you suffer from anxiety and are not having any infection.

Hope this helps.
