Had Postpartum Cauterization Tubal Performed. How Effective Is It?

Hello- I am having concerns with how effective my tubal may be as my girlfriend told me her doctor told her she would want to take precautionary measures birth control wise after 5 years. I had a postpartum cauterization tubal performed after having my 3rd child 9 years ago. Is this still effective or should I be taking precautions? I am 36 years old.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Tubal ligation or cauterization is a permanent but reversible process, and it does not lose its efficacy after some time.

Of course some complications can take place (eg. Ectopic or tubal pregnancy), but these are rare and are due to tissue and cell regrowth around the region.

What you can do to make sure all is well and you are protected, is to conducted annual ultrasound examinations for your abdomen and pelvic region.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
