Had Nose Bleeds, Dizziness. Treatment?

My dad has been having really bad nose bleeds lately. He has also been having dizziness. He went to the doctor and his blood pressure, his brain, and the arteries in his neck are fine. They don't know what's going on. He has to get more tests but I'm worried. What could cause this? He doesn't have a history of chronic nosebleeds or dizziness. He had a really bad one today. He went through 3 RAGS of blood. It was bad. Helpful advice?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi !Good evening. I am Dr Shareef, general surgeon answering your query.
On of the commonest reasons for a nose bleed in this age group is undetected hypertension. Your father needs a serial blood pressure monitoring, as the blood pressure in his case may be fluctuating from a high level to normal. After the bleed when his blood pressure was checked, it might have come down. So is the need for a regular blood pressure monitoring.
Apart from this, I do not expect that he has any kind of nose picking habit to traumatize the nasal mucosa.
If he had fever earlier, then please get a blood platelets done to see if the count is normal. Also I would advise for a clotting profile to be done.
Many times older people because of their friable mucosa and vessel wall in the nasal cavities, bleed of their own. If some active bleeder is seen, then it has to be cauterized.
However, I am sure the doctor who is examining and treating your father must be aware of these factors and must be doing the needful for him. I wish him an early recovery.
Thank you for choosing the healthcaremagic forum for your health query. Good luck.
