Had Liver Function And Blood Test Done. Have Back Ache. Findings?
MY LFT RESULT SHOWING THAT SGPT 102 & TOTAL BILLIRUBIN 1.2 Alk.PHOSPHATASE 172, LIPID PROFILE SHOWING TC 242 HDL 44 LDL150 ...LAST YEAR IN MARCH 2012 I HAD DON MY BLOOD TESTS INCLUDING HEPATITIS B & C ALL WERE NORMAL ACCEPT TC & TG BOTH WERE HI. I HV NO ANY KIND OF PROBLEM EXCEPT BACK ACHE. NO DIAB & HYP TEN.MY AGE IS 39YEARS. I AM MUCH WORRIED ABOUT ALT/SGPT PLZ ADVICE ME ...THANKS SAJID
The normal range for AST can vary between labs but in general the AST range is 10 to 40 U/l. AST is found not just in the liver but also in the heart, muscle and red blood cells.
Increased AST/SGPT may be related to : (1) non alcoholic fatty liver disease- this occurs where there is accumulation of fat in the liver which can inflame the liver (2) alcoholic liver disease (3)infections (4)trauma (5)side effect of medication
Your doctor may consider monitoring the levels to see if it changes, imaging investigations to take a look at the liver.
