Had Copper IUD Inserted, Pain, Heavy, Painful Period, Vagina Swollen. Normal? What Should I Do?
Hi I had the copper IUD inserted over a week ago. i was in a lot of pain afterwards and stated my period 3 days after, which was heavy and painful for approx 7 days. I tried to check the strings but i m having trouble with feeling them and it seems that the walls of my vagina are swollen. is this normal after having the IUD ? what should i do? thank you
Hello
thank you for your query.
It is not normal to have a lot of pain and swollen vaginal walls after IUD insertion.
You should consult your gynecologist to rule out the possibility of a pelvic infection which is seen sometimes with the IUD.
Also, you should not have any trouble feeling the IUD strings.
It is possible that the IUD might have been expelled with your period.
Also, the IUD might have migrated upwards leading to inability to feel the strings.
Please consult your doctor, as an infection, if untreated , can lead to complications.
take care
