Had Constant Exposure To HIV Positive Partner. Tested Negative For HIV. What Are The Chances Of Carrying The Disease?

Hi Doctor,

I am of age 26, I was married and after 1.5 years of marriage I got to know that my husband is HIV positive, let me right the sequence of events.
1. got married in Jan 2010
2.had protected sex most of the times and unprotected sex 5 times
.in Feb 2011 I had severe sore throat, mouth ulcers, black spots on my inner throat, fever
I was hospitalized ,HIV rapid test was done and it was negative
3.In April 2011 my husband was diagnosed with HIV,his viral load was 3700 and CD4 count 137.
4.After that I never had physical contact with him,I have tested negative for ELISA for 20 months.
5.My marriage broke down because of all these.

My question is can I be rest assured that I do not have HIV and move ahead in life getting married to some one else or should I wait.

Also I have read in various website where partners of HIV + person are considered as "HIGLY EXPOSED SERONEGATIVE PEOPLE",what does that mean?does it mean that the person is infected but does not produce any antibodies?

Do I fall into that catagory?

Please help me doctor...I am worried about it...I want to move n in life

Hello friend,
I have gone through your question and feel sympathy for you. I understand that you are very much worried about your present condition.

Immunity to any disease producing organism including HIV vary from individual to individual. In any infection there are two factors: one is the germ factor and the other is host factor. No virus or bacteria can attack a human being as long as he is healthy.

I am a Homoeopath and have different ideas about infection than that being held by the society. I used to compare the fate of a buffalo in the forest . He cannot be attacked by crows or vultures as long as he is actively healthy. Once his resistance go poor, either by some other diseases or aging, he can easily be attacked by the same birds who could not do anything against him earlier. They may even kill the buffalo and eat its flesh even before it breathes its last. Similarly, HIV cannot kill anybody if he is resistant enough. Opportunistic diseases appear in less or non resistant individuals. They can occur in an individual even if he is not HIV infected. Poor resistance can be due to several reasons including poor nutrition, poverty, lack of education, lack of knowledge about healthy life styles, sanitation etc. These diseases associated with HIV like Tuberculosis, Cancers etc were existing independently even before the onset of HIV infections in Humans.
This much I have written to console you and to give you courage to live happily in future.

You are fortunately a healthy individual as far as HIV infection is concerned. Of course you come under the category of Highly Exposed Sero Negative Individuals. That simply means you were exposed to HIV but not contracted. Your blood(serum) is free of HIV. You can very well get married to another individual and can lead a healthy life in future. Only thing is that you should not again get worried thinking over your past unfortunate life including your contacts with the HIV+ individual.
My best wishes for a happy and healthy married life in future.
