Had Bunion Surgery, Arthritis And Hammer Toe, Doctor Have To Insert A Tendon Through The Toe

I had bunion surgery May 2012, and now I have developed arthritis and a hammer toe. The doctor wants to go in and take a piece of the bone out of the big toe and put the tendon through that toe so the big toe can lay flat. Should that have occurred after having the bunion removed. The incision healed and it is under the big toe.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
After a surgery for bunion, there can be a deviation of the toe if arthritis develops in the toe. The surgical repair that your doctor has advised will help in decreasing the discomfort.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
