Had Atrial Fibrillation After Vomiting Followed By High Blood Pressure And Increased Heart Rate. Why Do I Have Fatigue?

I was in - what I believe was - atrial fibrillation after vomiting this past Monday morning around 5:00 a.m. (this was self-induced as I did not feel well). I did not go back into regular rhythm (according to my blood pressure kit) until about sixteen hours later. Now my blood pressure (which never got too high while I was in Afib [or what I believe was Afib]) and my heart rate (which I believe maxed out at about 119 beats per minute while in Afib) are back to normal. I can still run general errands, but feel somewhat fatigued. I don't know if my fatigue is purely related to nerves. I take Sotolol and normally it seems to work well. I was first diagnosed with Lone Afib in Oct. 1998. I did not go to the hospital on this latest occasion. I did call my doctor's nurse today and informed her.

Hi,
If you have noticed that your heart rate is running high and you think you have been in AF then this may be a cause for your fatigue. When the heart is in AF, it cannot pump the blood around the body efficiently and therefore your muscles do not receive enough blood to function properly. This means that they will become tired more quickly than usual.
I suggest you see your doctor for further investigation. You may need a 24 hour ECG to try to detect runs of AF.

Dr K A Pottinger,
