Had PMDD, Severe Bleeding During Periods, Anemic, Lower Abdominal Pain, Fibroid Tumor. Do Hysterectomy?

I am 42 years old mother and wife and have suffered from PMDD since I started my period at the age of 17. In addition to this, I have sufferred with severe bleeding during my period which has caused me to be Anemic and has never subsided, despite taking prescribed Iron pills. Last year my Gyno found a Fibroid Tumor on my Uterus that was benign and as of yesterday's check-up, it has grown AND many more have formed. I have, for years, had lower abdominal pain and pressure, always feel like I have to urinate, sex is extremely painful, and my PMDD has worsened. Last year, we tried to get approval from my HMO for a Hysterectomy but was told to first go on some form of birth control before they would even consider it. To make a long story short, birth control, with or without hormones, has never helped. We are, one again, requesting the Hysterectomy from my HMO. I guess my biggest concern is do you foresee this as a good choice or am I and my Doctor missing something better out there? Thank you.

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
Your fibroid is gradually increasing in size and more and more seedling fibroids are also appearing. In such a case, since you are symptomatic also, going for a surgical treatment is the best way out. Do discuss this option with your treating gynecologist.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
