Had Gall Bladder Removal Surgery, Swelling And Pain In Neck, Tingling, Numb Fingers. Treatment?

Hello, I'm a 34 year old female. Mother of two, both c-section. I've had emergency surgery to remove my gall bladder a few years back. Other than that I'm relatively healthy but been having some neck major neck pain and swelling in the back at the base. All this along with pain and tingling all the way down my left arm and some fingers are numb, it's to the point where it's becoming difficult to grip and hold items at times....

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query. With your history, the diagnosis goes more in favour of a cervical spondylitis which may be unrelated to your previous surgeries. In cervical spondylitis, sometimes the nerves are pressed by the osteophytes, and this causes pain and tingling along with weakness in the muscles supplied by the nerve, thus causing difficulty in gripping and hold items.
If I would have been your treating physician, I would have advised you for an X ray cervical spine to see if there are any features of cervical spondylitis. At the same time I would have advised you for some anti inflammatory drugs, to maintain right posture during reading or while on computer, and also for physiotherapy to strengthen your neck muscles. In case the symptoms are not relieved and the intensity increases, I would refer to you to a neurologist who may go for an MRI of the cervical region to see if there is any compression of the nerve roots, and to arrive at a more precise diagnosis for further management.

I hope this information helps you in planning your further strategy. Thanks for your interest in the healthcaremagic forum. Good luck.
