Given Ran-cefprozil For Strep Throat. Rashes On The Inner Thighs And Groin Area. Taking Atorvastatin And Valsartan. Stop Medication?
Hi Dr., I have strep throat and was given Ran-Cefprozil 500mg to be taken twice daily for 7 days. On the second day I developed a rash on both inner thighs and groin area. I have taken 4 pills in total , I am also on a daily dose of 20mg of Atrovastatin, 25mg of Hydrochlorothiazide and 80mg of Valsartan. Should I stop taking this medication? All Clinics are closed today .
Most oral drug allergic reactions would present with generalised rash and itching. It would be unusual for an oral medication to present with a localised rash as in your case where it is confined to the inner thighs and groin area.
Having said that, everyone reacts differently to medication.
If you did not have this problem before then it may be related to the drug. You can consider discontinuing the medication and speaking to your doctor when the clinic is reopened.
I hope this helps
