Hi,
Some full term babies are small and yet are healthy and soon gain weight. Every pregnancy is different and it is not always clear why some babies are small at birth. Emotional stress is unlikely to result in a small baby.
A healthy placenta is vital to ensure the baby grows. To help avoid placental problems you should maintain a healthy diet, avoid smoking, alcohol and recreational drugs. Also, anaemia can affect the baby's growth which is why you have regular blood tests throughout pregnancy.
