It can also be a result of pancreas disease. As this lasts for a long time, your husband should have some diagnostics as it is not improving. It is advisable to start with basic tests like abdominal ultrasound, full blood work, liver tests (AST,ALT,GGTP), pancreas tests (amylase), bilirubin, urine analysis and stool tests.
