Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband passes stool atleast 5 to 7 times a day. This has been happening for the past 1yr. The stool comes out in very little quantities only. Besides this he constantly passes gas & also has stomach pains often He has tried metamucil 3 times a day & also takes probiotic (innerhealth) once daily at night. There is no change in his condition.
Such strange bowel movements can appear due to large intestine disease like inflammatory intestinal disease, colon cancer, bowels obstruction. It can also be a result of pancreas disease. As this lasts for a long time, your husband should have some diagnostics as it is not improving. It is advisable to start with basic tests like abdominal ultrasound, full blood work, liver tests (AST,ALT,GGTP), pancreas tests (amylase), bilirubin, urine analysis and stool tests.
Colonoscopy seems to be necessary as well, especially if your husband has blood or mucus in stool, lost some weight recently.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
