Frequent Periods. Ultrasound Normal. Taken Progesterone. Reason?

Hi, my husband had a vasectomy reversal 3 months ago. His vasectomy was 7 years ago. Before his reversal, I have had regular cycles without birth control for over 7 years. Since his reversal, I have had 3 periods in 6 weeks. I have no idea why now this is happening. I went to my obgyn, had an ultrasound and it was fine. He put me on progesterone for 7 days to reset my cycle. I thought maybe I had implantation causing the irregularity, but then we tested his sperm count with an OTC kit from wal greens, and it was negative. Should we get a real test for him and what do you think about the irregularity? I am 34 so I don't have too much longer. Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

Normally after vasectomy (surgical procedure for male sterilization), there are no chances that he can ever get a woman pregnant again. Although men considering vasectomies should not think of them as reversible, and most men and their partners are satisfied with the operation, life circumstances and outlooks can change, and there is a surgical procedure to reverse vasectomies using vasovasostomy. Vasovasostomy is effective at achieving pregnancy in a variable percentage of cases. The typical success rate of pregnancy following a vasectomy reversal is around 55% if performed within 10 years, and drops to around 25% if performed after 10 years.
Normally you should not be having irregular cycles after a vasectomy reversal had been performed on your husband except of course that you are pregnant and you said ultrasound showed everything was fine. This means therefore, that the problem might be of psychological origin or hormone imbalance.
You will require sometime and maybe some additional pregesterone supplements in order to get your menses regularized.

Hope this helps
