Frequent Episodes Of Severe Lower Back, Right Flank Pain, Bloating After Excessive Alcohol And Sleep Deprivation. Possible Causes?

Hi I am 39 year old female and after a pretty big weekend of excess alcohol and little sleep I have severe sharp pain in my lower back right flank. I have been experiencing this more and more frequently especially after drinking alcohol, I also have bloating and cramping through my stomach (lower abdomen ). what could be causing this?

Hello and welcome to HCM,

Thank you for your query.

This could possibly be because of the large quantity of alcohol consumed, resulting in more load on the kidneys.

It would be normal, but it could also be a sign of some underlying condition in your kidneys.

Do you experience urinary tract infections? Or have you ever noticed any blood in your urine?

The best investigation right now would be an ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis, which would help visualize any condition and rule out a cause.

In the mean time, you should consume as many fluids as possible. Hydrate yourself and don't worry about urinating more frequently due to the excess fluid intake.

I hope I have succeeded in answering your questions, you could write back to us anytime for further clarifications.

Best wishes.
