Frequent Burning On The Outside Of Vagina Or Urethra, Have UTI. Worn A Tampon. Suggest?
I m a 55 yr old woman and I have frequent burning on the outside of my vagina or urethea. It burns so bad I m not sure what s actually burning. I often gets UTIs because I dread urinating so I hold it for hours on end. Lately I ve worn a tampon and it will help for a day or two but the burning will start again. I ve been to several Urologist and they have dilated my urethea and within a week or two I have the same pain.
Hello and welcome to HCM
Presence of burning sensation at the opening of vagina and/ or urethera and frequent UTI indicates an infection of the urinary trat which is not getting treated.
You need to get some investigations to know the cause of the symptoms.
A urine examination- routine and culture. Urine culture will isolate the micro-organism causing the infection. Further senstivity will help to know the antiobiotic most suitable for the infection.
A X-ray and ultrasound of the kidney-ureter-bladder region is needed. A stone in the kidney or bladder can be a cause of recurrent urinary tract infection.
Topical emollients and anti-pruiritic can be used to relieve the irritation and itching on the perineal skin.
Consult your doctor for investigations and further management.
Thanks and take care
